TRIQUINT UNVEILS NEW ADDITIONS TO QUANTUM Tx Module™ FAMILY for DUAL-BAND GSM/GPRS ENTRY-LEVEL WIRELESS HANDSETS
6x6x1.1mm High Efficiency Product Offers Superior Performance;
Current Clamp Feature can Maximize Talk-Time
BARCELONA, Spain / HILLSBORO, Oregon (USA) – February 7, 2007 – TriQuint Semiconductor (Nasdaq: TQNT), a leading supplier of RF front-end modules for wireless handsets, today announced the release of its newest dual-band GSM/GPRS transmit (Tx) module, the TQM6M4028, as part of its 2007 ‘Global Handset Strategy’ announced February 1st. This new module will be on display at the GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain (12th-15th Feb. 2007), and is targeted at the rapidly emerging entry-level wireless handset market, and complements TriQuint’s products for ultra-modern, advanced multimedia wireless devices. A member of TriQuint’s QUANTUM Tx ModuleTM family, the TQM6M4028 represents a new generation of advanced products for the changing needs of a global communications marketplace.
TriQuint set the industry size standard for transmit (Tx) modules in 2005 when it introduced the world’s smallest products in the category: 6x6x1.1mm. The TQM6M4028 is the latest addition to the evolutionary QUANTUM Tx ModuleTM family, and with it TriQuint successfully maintains the worlds smallest form factor, the same footprint and pin compatibility with prior generations. This aids manufacturers in creating dual-band variations of existing quad-band designs, therein reducing development costs and speeding time-to-market. Only TriQuint Semiconductor has the in-house process technologies, design skills and cooperative relationships with key transceiver and handset makers to optimize every front-end element along the transmit / receive chain.
Although designed for entry-level markets, the new modules are loaded with performance advantages enabling extended battery life and world-class efficiency. For instance, the new current clamp feature prevents the handset battery from being rapidly depleted if the phone is positioned close to a surface that markedly disturbs the antenna.
“The TQM6M4028 module integrates a dual-band GaAs HBT power amplifier with an SP4T pHEMT switch, low-pass filters, PA and switch controller with all necessary matching and ESD protection circuitry,” said Berry Leonard, TriQuint Handset Product Marketing Manager. “All passive components are integrated onto the active device circuits, which eliminates the need for surface mount devices inside the module or on the phone’s printed circuit board. TriQuint’s design can simplify the manufacturing process while increasing overall product reliability,” he added.
“We are pleased to offer our customers yet another solution that builds on the success of our quad-band Tx modules,” said Leonard. “We have shipped more than 50 million of these devices to date. The new TQM6M4028 for entry-level GSM / GPRS dual-band applications joins our QUANTUM Tx-ModuleTM family alongside TQM6M5001, our existing EDGE quad-band product.”
TriQuint’s latest addition to its GSM / GPRS Tx-module family complements a full line of GSM / EDGE and WCDMA/HSDPA products as well as Bluetooth® PAs and filters for current and next-generation wireless handsets. The TQM6M4028 is available in two variants that accommodate European (E) or United States (U) frequency allocations. See TriQuint’s newest modules at the company’s GSM World Congress exhibition (Hall 2, Level 1, Space D22) in Barcelona, Spain (12th-15th February 2007). The GSM World Congress is the largest convention and exhibition dedicated to GSM wireless communications, now with more than 2.6 billion global subscribers.
