News & Discoveries
University Demonstrates Record PAE: Researchers Report New Record for Wireless Base Station PAs: UCSD study of 3G base station amplifiers shows the highest ever power added efficiency (PAE) – 58% – was achieved using TriQuint GaAs HV-HBT devices. Efficiency is important because base stations rely on power amplifiers built with RF transistors to deliver signals to distant mobile devices. More efficient transistors lower base station energy bills. Greater efficiency also means less waste heat – reducing energy / equipment needed for cooling. Today’s typical transistors are silicon-based; they consume much more DC power than TriQuint Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) devices. The report showed an average 58%+ PAE using TriQuint HV-HBT devices: the best reported efficiency for a single-stage WCDMA base station PA. The study also reports the best linearization improvement, making these devices very designer-friendly. Read article.
TriQuint Releases New Handset RF Module Family: TriQuint unveiled its latest family of RF Modules for handset manufacturers: The 7x4mm TRITIUM II PA-Duplexer family supports the CDMA protocol with PCS, AWS and Cellular band support. The modules offer customers a complete front end solution for multi-band CDMA handsets with lower cost and more efficiency. The TRITIUM II PA-Duplexer family is 30% smaller than previous solutions. Each module includes a single ended transmit, filter, duplexer, high efficiency PA die, RF power coupler, matching and built-in voltage regulator functionality eliminating the need for external switch circuitry.
TriQuint Updates Guidance for Fourth Quarter 2008: Significant order push-outs and a drop in new orders have reduced our anticipated revenue to a range of $140 million to $145 million, down from our previous estimate of $160 million to $175 million. At the new range midpoint projected for Q4, revenue for 2008 will be approximately 19% above revenue for 2007. We believe TriQuint remains well-positioned financially and strategically heading into 2009, with ample cash reserves, continued market share gains, and a strong technical roadmap.
